KUWAIT: Night prayers were performed at the Grand Mosque for the first time in three years in the early hours of Tuesday after it was closed due to the COVID pandemic and maintenance work.
Security personnel and volunteers maintained order as worshipers arrived at the mosque for the Qiyam ul Lail prayers held during the last 10 days of the holy month of Ramzan.
The first four rak'ahs of the Tahajjud prayer were led by Sheikh Umar al-Damkhi, while the remaining four rak'ahs were led by Sheikh Khalid al-Juhaym.
The Grand Mosque has prepared fully staffed clinics, an outdoor tent and a designated area for women, among other facilities, in collaboration with various ministries and institutions to serve worshippers.
All parking lots of the Public Utilities Company are open free of charge to worshipers of the Grand Mosque after midnight, Ali Shaddad, director of the Grand Mosque, said on Monday.
"Buses have also been provided to take worshipers from the parking lot to the main gate of the mosque. In addition to the carts provided for the transportation of the disabled and the elderly," Special parking spaces have been allocated for the disabled in the Kuwait Stock Exchange and adjacent building. He called on citizens and residents to cooperate with the organizing authorities and not to offer prayers at unspecified places.
