Kuwait: Astronomer and historian Adel Al-Sadoun revealed that Eid al-Fitr for the year 1444 AH will be celebrated on different days in Muslim countries, depending on when the first Shawwal is declared. "In most Islamic countries, April 20 will be the 29th day of Ramadan, because these countries depend on the conjunction of the moon and the sun, which is expected after sunset," he said.
"For countries that wait for the crescent moon to signal the beginning of Eid al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan will be on April 21," he said. Regarding the conditions for seeing the crescent, he said that on April 20, 2023, the moon will align with the sun and there will be a solar eclipse which will not be seen in the Arabian region.
The time of yoga and eclipse is 7:12 am. The sunset will happen at 6:06 PM, while the moonset will happen at 6:42 PM. “The age of the moon would be 11 hours and six minutes. Centuries ago, the sighting of the crescent moon was not proven unless its age was more than 15 and a half hours and the moon stayed after sunset for 24 minutes,” pointed out Sadoun.
He indicated that the conditions for sighting the crescent would not be met, adding that in most Arab countries, even in Mauritania, the crescent moon would be seen neither with the naked eye nor with binoculars. Eid al-Fitr is an important Islamic holiday marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, celebrating the successful completion of this spiritual journey. The exact date of Eid al-Fitr varies every year, as it follows the lunar calendar.
